Major Business and Actions

Evaluate establishing a dialog with air conditioner manufacturers together with major local jurisdictions and insurance industry representatives regarding roof top equipment compliance with hurricane wind standards.

Rule Adoption Hearings on: Rule 9B-70.002 Education; Rule 9B-3.047 FBC Glitch Amendments including adoption of 2008 NEC, reference to “designers” in FBC, Building, chapter 1, DOH public pool standards update and other fixes; and, Rule 9B-13.0071 Cost Effectiveness of Energy Code Amendments. Rule Development Workshop on Product Approval system fees.

June 8, 2009
Waivers from Accessibility Code Requirements

1. Muvico Theaters Cocowalk
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to all rows of seats in a stadium type movie theater.
Action: Deferred to August meeting at the request of the applicant.

2. United Way of the Big Bend.
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to the second floor of an office building.
Action: Recommended approval.

3. The Palms Hotel and Spa.
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to the front entrance of a historic building.
Action: Recommended approval.

4. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Station #64
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to the second floor of a fire station an accessibility to firefighters’ toilet rooms.
Action: Deferred to August meeting for additional information.

5. New Emerald Coast Middle School.
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to all rows of seats in two bleachers in a gymnasium.
Action: Recommended approval, to include required companion seats.

6. The Urbana Retail Tenant Building.
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to open air rooftop parking.
Action: Deferred to August meeting to present new information to the Advisory Council.

7. Winter Haven Fire Safety Complex.
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to the second floor of a fire station and accessibility to firefighters’ toilet rooms.
Action: Deferred to August meeting for additional information.

8. Island Water Sports.
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to a second floor storage area in a retail facility.
Action: Recommended approval.

9. Dick Brown Park – Dave Manzo Field
Requirement: Vertical accessibility to all rows of seats in two bleacher systems at a baseball field.
Action: Deferred to August meeting for additional information.

How many handicapped Fire fighters can there be.
Granted if this was a admin or dispatch center I can see it.
But I have never seen a fire fighter at a fire in a wheel chair holding a hose.

Its my understanding that there is a Florida Statute which only allows certified firefighters to occupy the upper floor (which is the sleeping quarters)and therefore the need for accessibility is a mute point.

I have never seen a handicapped stripper but they made the bar put in a ramp to the stage in a Baltimore strip club.

I will volunteer to tour all the area strip clubs to make sure they are ADA compliant. It will be a tough job, but someone has to do it!
