They call that trail deicing. They load that 12/2 cable to around 50A to get it nice and toasty which keeps the trail free from snow.

In the summer you can use it to help start a camp fire...

I wasn't meaning to pick on you. I got a few interesting pictures on my trip up north. They don't seem to require disconnects on AC condensers in Southern Md and they hook them up with UF, zip tied to the freon line. I forgot to see if the thermostat cable was UV protected.

Greg,
You can pick on NC all you want. I do.
Can't really say what I'd like though for fear of retribution. I lasted 3 months as an Inspector here and one morning just walked out.

And they say, " I was down in Florida and they don't even put pool pumps on GFCI" grin

Alas, I have pictures of violations from all over the country. When I was working for IBM as an Installation Planning Rep and also an IAEI inspector, I had a standing bet that I could find a violation within a minute wherever I was (usually in an office building). In a computer room, all it usually took was lifting a floor tile or two. That was the reason I got into this in the first place.
I don't think I ever saw an AHJ in a computer room and they are changing things on the electrical system all the time.
