We plan on holding not less than 2 seminars a year at the same location and keep the price around $50 a person. I think our next presentation will be on GROUNDING AND BONDING...

If you can keep the costs down where inspectors can pay the freight themselves(since most juristictions are cutting back on what they will pay for) you should do ok, 50.00 isn't a lot to pay for good education,

That's the whole idea. My actual goal is to provide the education completely FREE to IAEI members while still keeping the fee not greater than $50 for non-members. This will both inspire those to become members that are not and give a reason for those that are members to stay that way.

Membership is a big problem these days, with juristictions cutting back on everything, it is hard to get them to pay for education if you already have your required hours, or even if you don't. A lot of inspectors can't pay for a 3 or 4 day seminar plus the hotel bill etc. I had this conversation with Leonard Devine when I was Secretary of South Carolina Chapter, even with the influx of new members, we are losing a lot out the back door, older members who have dropped their memberships for one reason or another,

I offer to jurisdictions a free seminar and CEU for all inspectors and plans examiners employed with them, if they may provide me with a location meeting room. The contractors invited to the seminar pay the per head price of $60.00 (depending on what is provided..ie books, food, meeting room etc). That is what funds the seminar and keeps the cost down for city's and county's.

Paul is dead-on about membership. We had 92 attendees at the July 25th Seminar, yet only 30 were paid members of the IAEI. The Gulf Coast Divsion had a peak of 140 members in mid 2007. We are now down to 69. During these times, I don't think it is right to ask for the $102 memebrship fee based on the services / benefits returned for that fee. Until we (the IAEI) can find a way to better serve its members in both good and bad times, I only see membership dropping off even further.
