On behalf of Dick Widera
Suncoast Division IAEI
Monthly meeting announcement for 130pm Thursday 12/10/09
Teco Western Operations Center - training/meeting room
5401 West Sligh Avenue, Tampa FL.
Just west of Anderson Road on the south side of the street.
A brief business session will take place to nominate and elect the Division Officers for 2010.
Then the meeting will be turned over to Mr. Jeff Small of GE, who will give a presentation about "selective coordination." There was a miscommunication about Mr. Small giving this presentation at the Safety Harbor November meeting, but Kristina Samples of GE has diligently and delicately put the strong arm on Mr. Small to make the 12/10/09 meeting.
Please attend and learn some more about the fascinating and ever continually growing sophistication of the electrical industry. We are long past the days of just light bulbs, refrigerators, washing machines, and a couple of receptacles. The more knowledge you have, the better a job you can perform either as an inspector or a contractor.

MINUTES Regular monthly meeting 11/12/09 at the City of Safety Harbor City Hall.
1st Vice President John Sheesley opened the meeting at 138pm. President Gene Swisher was excused account having to generate funds to feed his significant other. The 16 attendees gave a resounding Pledge to the Flag and then introduced themselves in a round robin self introduction.
1st time visitors were Kristina Samples of GE Electric Distributors in Tampa and Ed Upshaw of Trilectron Industries in Palmetto.
The minutes of the 10/08/09 meeting at the Holiday Recreation Center, as reported in the email flyer for this meeting, were approved upon motion by Robert Barbee and second from Paul Northrup.
The Secretary's report was about Florida HB425, code questions for the 80th Annual Meeting, attendees to the Chapter BOD meetings on 01/09 and 05/08, Ed Conklin of the Central Florida Division being ill with brain cancer, Central Florida ECF golfing, NFPA seminars in Orlando in December, the IAEI International having a 5 minute YouTube video flic to watch, and a report by Nelson Montgomery about the progress of the 80th Annual meeting.
The Treasurers report was given by Bob Moore, Rob Sly being absent. Bob said as far as he knew, the division was solvent.
The Membership Committee report was given by John Sheesley, with 119 current members paid up and 30 members being dilinquent.
Old Business - there was none presented.
New Business - Paul Northrup questioned the intent of NEC 680.26(c), as to whether the intent was to be (9 square inches) or (81 square inches). A rousing discussion took place. The Secretary tried to call several people at the IAEI IO office but no one was in to answer/clarify the question.
Kristina Samples apologized profusely about Jeff Small's absence. Apparently he had penciled in the wrong time and was still in the Orlando area. Kristina asked if Jeff's presentation could be rescheduled for the December meeting, and it was so agreed by the group. She then gave a brief over view of the GE group presence in the Tampa Bay area.
John Sheesley initiated a brief discussion about the 2008 NEC allowing more then 42 circuit breaker poles in a panel. All understood that if it is a lighting and power panel, then the maximum is 42 poles. If it is a power panel only, then more than 42 poles may be furnished and used.
Wes Colley made comment about the deaths and accidents in Iraq from shower water heaters. There is an ongoing Department of Defense investigation into these incidents.
Jim Pappas questioned the requirement for a low voltage grounding bar. He was directed to the Arlington advertisement on page 15 of the current "IAEI News."
Larry Diaz raised the issue of Teco meters blowing up. Reference was made to several Teco inspectors who did not know how to shut power off to a facility. Bob Moore commented that as far as arc flash problems, the worst place to work is at the meter. He gave a short history of the problem.
The Secretary reminded the attendees about the 80th Annual meeting in May and the CE seminar in February.
No further business being proferred by the group, the Chair entertained a motion for adjournment, same being rapped by the gavel at 240pm upon motion by Paul Northrup with second from Robert Barbee.
