You will find the correct understanding in the FAC from ECLB.

Mike I was already in the process of doing that, thanks.

Oh sorry, it looks like (a) is cable guy, (b) is phone guy.

Don't forget that you have an "Under 50 volts" chapter in NEC. Palm Beach County makes you get a "low voltage" permit.

Don't get confused. There is a difference between an exemption for electrical or alarm contractor LICENSING, and a requirement under the law to get a permit. This is apples and oranges. One is 489 and the other is 553.

553.79

One can be exempt from LICENSING but not exempt from PERMITTING

The more I read the more confused I get

Are you saying that if Embarq/Century Link sends out a contractor to install my DSL and he runs the Cat 5 into my house he needs a permit and Lee County will have to come out and inspect it?
Are we also inspecting the cable guy?
Do all of the subs they hire have to have limited low voltage licenses? (that will be a shock to them)

I assume everything on the pole is exempt?

Note carefully the scope of the exemption:
"as part of a cable television, community antenna television, or radio distribution system."
When Cable TV was new they got a special exemption. They went to all the meetings! The exemption des not apply to phone work (other than by the actual phone company) or to Satellite TV wiring.

Touchy subject.
My observation is....
Most all per say utilities now sub contract work.
Verizon Fios. Most all are employees except for the initial connection run to the residence. The actual installation in the home could be either one.

Brighthouse,
just about all work is out sourced by contractors including their distribution/transmission work. Very rare to see an actual employee.

TECO/FPC/PROGRESS:
You never know anymore. On any portion of what work is performed.
