Inground fiberglass swimming pools are popular. They require anchoring at four points usually. These anchors are commonly galvanized chain and often or occasionally submerged in saltwater/groundwater when near the coast. Discussion with a Boat captain/pool installer about pool water bonding requirements led to electrolysis and sacrificial anode discussions as to bonding. The bomb was when he told me that many jurisdictions were requiring the galvanized anchor chains to be bonded to the pool bonding system and the 'battery effect' of the saltwater was disolving the aluminum screw anchors...Does NEC 680.26 require these anchoring chains to be bonded?

Hey Ron, I questioned that myself last year and I was told that It was required in some other jurisdictions. Since then I've noticed it show on the manufactures drawings. Right now we don't require it unless its drawn or someone wants to do it.

I suppose those chains can be coated........on the ones that I've done the specs call for the chains to be encased in grout.

Why don't they use galvanized anchors? I am not sure any kind of aluminum really holds up that well when you bury it. That is why we don't use Al GECs isn't it?
