The Nov.-Dec. 2010 issue of the "IAEI NEWS", on page 26 has a misleading statement. Therein it is stated "It is a simple technology using electrons that are recombined as photons." I have been in email communication with Jonathan Cadd of the IAEI-IO, author of the article on LED lighting, about this anomaly. I have stated that as printed, electron recombination into photons requires a huge amount of energy. Such energy is only available in a stellar sun process or via earth bound linear or circular colliders. Mr. Cadd took his information out of the internet Wikipedia site, but neglected to include two very crucial words. The words are "with holes." The article should have stated that when negatively charged electrons recombine with positively charged holes in a molecular lattice, that photons are created ! ! ! ! !

An electron hole in a molecular or crystalline lattice is nothing more than a point of emptiness possessing an inherent positive charge. When an electron moves in a solid state lattice it leaves a positively charged hole. This is the concept of having corrected the world of electrical engineering to accept that electricity flows from minus to plus polarity, which of necessity has become so crucial with modern day electronic devices. RECALL if you will that years ago GM and Ford vehicles used a negative ground whilst Chrysler's used the correct positive ground. Anyone ever cross battery polarity in attempting to jump start a vehicle and then blow the battery caps many feet into the air, as well as a generous dispersion of sulphuric acid.

Further in regard the October 2010 issue of "E C & M" magazine has an excellant article on page 6 concerning LEDl theory and operation. The Physics of this article is correct.

Perhaps I should be giving thought to going through the NECode and correlating the Physics principles involved with the various articles. This will give me something to do in my spare time. Also the research would enable me to offer a CE course on the topic through "Dick Widera's School of Bootleg Electricity, or How to Fool the Electrical Inspector." :-)))
