Now there's a lower cost, easier-to-install and more tamper-resistant way for utility crews to secure their grounding conductor connections to rod electrodes.

One-piece Galvan Hammer-On Rod Clamps offer a simple compression-type connection. Their "irreversible feature" resists removal by unauthorized persons. The clamps handle one or two grounding conductors of No. 4 or No. 6 bare solid copper. They're designed for use with the most common rod on the electrical market -- the 5/8-inch nominal diameter copper-coated ground rod electrode.

Recently, utilities have turned to exothermic and compression connectors in hopes of reducing copper vandalism, safety problems and system reliability failures resulting from exposed connections. But these approaches add significant cost to installations, including crew training and use of specialized tools.

Galvan hammer-on clamps are an ideal choice for direct burial applications. They're produced from the same high-strength copper alloy used in Galvan's widely popular UL-listed "acorn" clamps. Installations using hammer-on clamps don't require special tools -- a common hammer secures the conductor-to-ground rod connection in seconds.

Also, connecting with a hammer-on clamp actually extends the "direct contact" area between the grounding conductor and along the side of the electrode. Because Galvan hammer-on rod clamps are a compression-type connector – not a threaded rod coupling – they are not susceptible to loosening during driving.
