It is STILL not known when the Florida Building Commission will adopt the 2011 NECode.

REMEMBER that the 2011 NECode is in effect on 01 January 2011 for Federal Government jobs and all NRTL activities.

OSHA has approved a new NRTL. It is QPS Evaluation Services Inc.

The NFPA has issued on 03/25/11 Errata No. 70-11-1 for the 2011 NECode. It contains 22 items. These errata may be accessed at www.nfpa.org/codelist.

The annual support check to the BAEA at PTEC Clearwater Campus has been received by their Treasurer, Robert Chellew.

The Secretary is in receipt of the 1st 2011 distribution check from the IAEI-IO in the amount of $ 345.00.

The Building Officials Association of Florida has developed a presentation of significant changes to the 2010 FBCode. Also they have provided a state webpage reflecting the changes, and is at http://www.dca.state.fl.us/fbc/thecode/Materials_for_June2011_Hearing.htm .

The GFCI requirements for swimming pool pumps that have arisen from UL1081, are being passionately debated around the Tampa Bay area.

OSHA has released their Region 4 News Release, 11-862-ATL (273), reporting on the considerable fines to the Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. in Tupelo, Miss. This inspection and subsequent fines were triggered by a December 2010 inspection at the company's plant in Findlay, Ohio. A considerable amount of the citations/fines was due to electrical violations.

NECA's Code Question of the Day on 06/20 addressed the laundry "OUTLET" issue. Per the NECode, an outlet is a single point of use definition. This then precludes a single GCO receptacle for the circuit as opposed to a duplex GCO receptacle.

Plans are afoot for a 8 hour seminar on 10/08 to be held at the IBEW Hall on Harney Road in Tampa. It would be broken up into 2 4 hour segments of residential and commercial wiring respectively.

The CPSC has recalled GE and Sharp wall air conditioning units. These are PATC and PAHP units.

UL has issued an unauthorized UL mark statement about Toshiba AC adaptors.

UL Standards 2601 and 544 for medical equipment terminated on 12/31/09, being replaced by new UL Standard 60601-1(1). It has come to the attention of the various NRTL's that medical products with listing marks showing adherance to UL2601 and/or UL544 are still being furnished to the market place by manufacturers. INSPECTORS NEED TO BE CAREFUL ABOUT THIS WHEN INSPECTING MEDICAL/DENTAL FACILITIES.

Hey there now, if you have read this far, why don't you just make plans to come to the meeting on Thursday and make your presence and thoughts known to others of the Tampa Bay Electrical Community. Nobody will bite your head off or threaten to issue Red Tags. We all need to make an individual and concerted group effort to fight this problem of apathy in the electrical industry. In my case electricity is doubly interesting to me because of the way the laws of Physics are put to use.

There is an alludement in last weeks "IAEI Weekly Newsletter" via email about amusement park physics. The next time you visit Busch Gardens, Universal, or the Disney Parks, pay particular attention to how Physics is employed in the illusory entertainment you are paying so dearly for.
