Would a room in a Walgreens store that is going to be a mini lab corp blood draw unit require to comply with 517 relating to patient care (517.13(a). There is a chair typical for blood drawing labs and that's about it. There is no other electrical, phone or tv equipment near it thus probably not coming under the definition of general care in definitions of 517.

If it was just a lab, where they only test the blood, I would say no.

Since they actually draw blood from a patient, I would say yes, no matter what kind of a name they give to that room or business.

For whatever reason, this has been an issue for the last decade. In my experience, most building officials are hesitant to deal with this issue. I don't know why.

If this operation does not involve ANY electrical equipment I can't imagine why they would even need a receptacle in the area.
If they have one, you might be able to say it needs to be hospital grade and 517 compliant.

I agree with Nick & Greg.

Any electrical equipment within the vicinity of the patient exam / treatment area would have to comply with Article 517, even if they don't intent to use electro-mechanical on the patients...
