#850 - 02/11/04 12:28 PM Romex behind 3/4" furred walls

When did Florida decide Romex was not subject to damage behind a 3/4" furred walls (on block)?
Older Florida homes always had the Romex in EMT on these walls, no matter how far it was from the furring. Now it is acceptible to simply mount it on a standoff away from the furring. What changed?

Since the FBC, local ordnances, and or personal opinions are gone. The NEC may permit, or not permit something that was an acceptable practice in Florida or mandated by local jurisdiction.

You will find there are many such differences now that we inspect by the NEC only!

Be advised that there are some proposed changes to 2005 NEC 300.4 by adding the word "furring" to the code
