There does not seem to be an exemption in 110.16 or Article 527 for temporary services. Therefore it seems that the requirement for us to label for arc-flash hazard on temporary service panels for commercial projects is necessary. Are we all doing this?

Any input?

I'm surprised the electrical supply stores don't have big piles of arc flash hazard stickers on their counters with a little store logo (or other ad) on them.

So am I. That's why I tell people about ArcflashLabels.com

It's a no hassle, no waiting, next day service, and these labels fit nicely on deadfronts for temporary service panels smile

Also gives the inspector a quick out when tagging for this code requirement.

I don't think a supply house can advertise on the sticker since it has to conform to ANSI Z535.4 for the size, color, lettering, etc.

Also, the generic sticker doesn't really warn you of what the magnitude of the hazard really is. Under NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584, they give you a lot more needed detail. There was a recent death in Tampa from an Arc-Flash accident. This is a deadly hazard.

As the code states, "other than dwelling occupancies", then the requirement must be enforced. They also need to do the Short Circuit study for the temporary pole as well to comply with 110.9.

We have a website www.bussmann.com that has information on it under Safety Basics that goes over the Arc-Flash requirement.

Kevin,

I agree with you.

But the NEC only requires that a warning be there, not that it require the ANSI Z535.4. Remeber, it says in the beginning that you can't "enforce a fine print notes."

The labels on Arcflashlabels.com were actually based off of an example shown in IAEI magazine.
