Seminar seats for the 06/25/05 event at the Harbor View Center in Clearwater are still available. See item 10 this flyer ! Do not pass up an opportunity to hear a recognized NECode expert, John Minick of NEMA, in action.
1. Regular monthly business will be conducted.
2. A report on the 75th Florida Chapter Annual Meeting at Ft. Lauderdale will be given by those who attended.
3. Gene Swisher, time permitting, will continue discussion of the 2005 NECode changes.
4. The full and complete report about the swimming pool wet niche grounding issues is still to be forthcoming. Rick Jones, Bob Moore, and Mike Jordan are still working on this matter. Issues about the 2005 NEC are now being questioned in this regard.
5. G. Randy Poucher, owner of A Randy’s Electric passed away on 05/15/05. Calling hours were on 05/18. Services were on 05/19, with internment following at Candler FL. Randy for all his gruffness and John Wayne machoism was a pussy cat at heart. His humor once discovered by others was profound. He was over the years a staunch supporter of apprenticeship education and the IAEI. He was an exemplary business man who taught those practices far and wide to electrician, contractor, and inspector alike. The operation of A Randy’s Electric continues, but Randy will be missed.
6. The National Electrical Code is not a stand alone document. Why ? ? ? ? ? DID ANYONE EVER TRY TO DO ANY TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION WITHOUT CONSULTING ANY OTHER CODES ? Hmmmmmmmmmmm !!
7. Is the 2005 NEC a legal document of the U.S.A. in the form of a CFR ? ? ? ? ? AH- Hah, another somewhat rhetorical question with a similarly rhetorical answer. The NECode is an ANSI approved document. Prior to acceptance by ANSI, the NECOde is just a conglomeration and collection of statements. Upon acceptance by ANSI, the NECode becomes the law of the land. Regardless of when the individual States adopt the NECOde, it legally becomes the law of the USA via the Code of Federal Regulations ( aka – CFR ) on the date of acceptance by ANSI.
8. True or false ? An equipotential grounding plane is an pseudo aero aircraft developed by the U.S. Government for use in sub orbital space trajectories. NOW COME ON PEOPLE, IT DEFINITELY IS NOT SOMETHING THAT TAKES OFF AND LANDS FROM AN AIRPORT. The suggestion is to learn what constitutes a equipotential grounding plane. WHY ????? Better check out Article 680.26 of the 2005 NECode. Ralph Philbrook and I have had an interesting discussion about this. Both of us agree that it will be a real Hee Haw moment of enlightenment for many contractors, pool and electrical alike, when the implications of this article are realized upon formal adoption by the State of Florida !
9. And while we are discussing equipotential grounding planes, it is heartily exhorted that people learn more about this grounding application to the problem of “blackened wires” in panels. This problem has become prevalent in the Tampa Bay area. How many people are looking at this problem via the avenue of NECode Article 250.6 ? This is another great big Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ! ! ! ! ! Contrary to what many uneducated electricians are saying (i.e.- those who never come to IAEI meetings and seminars), this is not an effect of hydrogen sulphide gas emanating out of the ground and into the meter socket and main service box via the pipe enclosing the underground lateral. Nor is a lighting strike problem.
10. 06/25/05 SEMINAR – seats are still available. There will be the 4 CE hours of inspector course in the morning. At the same time there will be 4 CE hours of NECode instruction in the morning by John Minick of NEMA. In the afternoon, all will be in the 4 CE hours of NECode instruction continued by the expert abilities of John Minick. John sits on several CMP panels for the NEC. He is a recognized NEC expert about the country. His knowledge of the NEC should rub off on all those attending.
11. 08/06/05 SEMINAR – seats are filling up for this 8 hour seminar also. Do not let an opportunity to hear Jim Pauley in action about the NEC pass by. Jim also sits on NEC CMPs, and is instrumental in promulgating the application of and interpretation of the NEC about the USA>

Do you know where your NEC book is ?
How many electricians do you personally know that do not own a NEC book ? This answer can be very, very scary ! ! ! ! !
What is missing from the equation P = VI ? The missing quantity is implied by the NEC, but many electricians do not even consider it in their load calculations.
